Many PD reminds locals to buckle up; will take place in Click it or Ticket program

The Many Police Department recently received a Special Wave Enforcement grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to partner with the state in its annual Click it or Ticket program.

Beginning May 23, 2022, and continuing through June 6, 2022, the Town of Many Police Department will be checking to make sure everyone is properly secured in their vehicles, drivers and passengers alike. Extra patrols will be on duty to ensure that our Town’s citizens are safe as they travel on city streets and roads throughout town. “This campaign is to raise awareness that wearing a seat belt is one of the safest habits to learn, from the time your children are passengers in a vehicle,” said Many Police Chief Cheryl Wooley. “One of the safest choices you can make is to buckle up EVERY TIME you get into a vehicle, especially for children,” Wooley added.

On May 7, Pleasant Hill High School graduated 22 outstanding students. Seven of these seniors have been in Pleasant Hill High School’s Dual Enrollment Program throughout their high school years. The dual enrollment courses are rigorous as the courses are taught online by the professors at Northwestern State University. Each student had a goal to obtain their Associates Degree in General Studies through NSU. In addition to their NSU classes, these students were also taking courses at Pleasant Hill High School. There have been lots of tears, late night study sessions, lots of tutoring sessions, meetings with the administrative team to check on each student’s progress, and tons of snacks… but each one accomplished their goal. The faculty, staff, and administration are proud of them for reaching this milestone in their life. Each of these students will enter college as junior.

FBI Field Offices warn of targeted sextortion schemes in local area

Recently, FBI Little Rock and FBI New Orleans have noted an increase in sextortion schemes targeting children in southern Arkansas and northern Louisiana. The FBI has received numerous reports of predators posing as children on social media to coerce minors into sending sexual videos of themselves and then extorting money from these underage victims. FBI Little Rock has noted an alarming uptick in these schemes targeting children in areas around El Dorado, Magnolia, and Monticello, AR. FBI New Orleans has also seen similar schemes targeting children in the Monroe, Alexandria, and Shreveport, LA areas.

Here’s how this disturbing scheme works:

A predator (posing as a child on social media) uses deception and manipulation to convince a minor victim, usually 13 to 17 years old, to engage in explicit sexual activity over video chat.

The videos or images are secretly recorded and saved by the predator.
