On Aug. 31, 2010, after 11 months of courageously battling leukemia, he received the call from his savior to “go up there.”
He was a loving father, son, and brother, a career paramedic of 23 years, and a passionate pool player. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, motorcycling and apparel silk screening.
Mr. Gates was a member of Hubbard Baptist Church in Quitman, Texas, where he was baptized.
Preceding him in death were his father, A. Ray Gates; maternal grandparents, Fern Wells Anderson and Clifford Stephenson; and paternal grandparents, Jessie H. and Rosa Mae Gates.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Jo S. Gates of Toledo Bend; three sons, David Allen Gates and James Michael Gates, both of Mineola, Texas, and Briar Montgomery Gates of Henderson, Texas; daughter, Lauren Ka’sandra Gates of Henderson, Texas; five brothers, Ray Waters and wife, Sonya, and Roger Waters and wife, Lydia, of Whitehouse, Texas; Tim Gates and wife, Rhonda, of Effie; and Scott and Kevin Gates of Pineville; numerous nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Special thanks are extended to the doctors, nurses and staff of Christus Schumpert Highland of Shreveport and Sabine Medical Center of Many for their compassionate, loving care.
