On Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. Florien High School hosted Open House for students and parents. Over 400 people gathered in the school cafeteria for a brief welcome and update from Principal Eddie Jones. With several new faces floating around the campus this year, Jones introduced new faculty to parents and students. A brief update was given on school programs and expectations for this school year.

With the assistance of FHS student Lincoln Pearce, Jones displayed the “School of Exemplary Academic Growth” flag earned for the 2009 school year from The Department of Education.

In a statement on FHS website Jones states, “I am truly excited to share with you an accomplishment of our school. On October 13, we received our school performance scores for the 2008-2009 school year. We are happy to announce that FHS received a score of 103.4, which is exemplary academic growth. Because of this score Florien High School has reached a milestone that we have been working towards for several years. Having the score of 103.4 makes FHS a three-star school! This truly shows that through hard work and dedication of students, parents, faculty and staff that goals can be obtained.”

After being dismissed students were eager to show parents to their classroom and introduce them to their teachers. Teachers were on hand to offer encouragement to both students and parents. To top off the evening, students were able to browse through the Book Fair, hosted in the elementary library. Special guest Clifford the Big Red Dog was on had to take pictures with his fans and encourage the children to keep reading.

Students were elated to pick up their new 2010 full-color yearbook from the Yearbook Staff. Smiles and giggles were shared as students and teachers signed yearbooks and priceless school memories were re-lived.

The 2010 - 2011 school year looks to be a successful and exciting one at Florien High School.
