The Sabine Parish Library and the State Library of Louisiana are pleased to announce an exciting after-school program that is available to all Louisiana students. Homework Louisiana, powered by Tutor.com, the leading online tutoring and homework help service, is a program that connects Louisiana K - 12 students to a live tutor online for one-to-one help with homework, studying and test preparation in all core academic subjects including math, science, social studies and English.
“We are so glad to be able to offer this to the students and parents of Sabine Parish,” says Debbie Anderson, Main Branch Adult Reference. “If anyone needs any help navigating through the program we will be more than happy to assist them.”
The State Library of Louisiana is thrilled to offer this new after-school program to students as part of the Louisiana Libraries Connecting People to Their Potential project which is funded through a recently awarded BroadbandUSA grant. The service is free to students and can be accessed from a Louisiana public library or from a student’s home computer.
Homework Louisiana Access and Details
The program is available Sunday - Thursday from 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. It can be accessed at parish libraries or from home by visiting the library’s website. Live Help allows a student to connect to a professional tutor in an online environment for one-to-one help. Grade levels K - 12 can benefit from this program in subjects: Elementary to advanced coursework in math, science, social studies and English. Tutoring in Spanish is also available.
Professional Tutors Online
Whenever a student is stuck on a homework problem, struggling with a concept he/she didn’t understand in class or is studying for an exam, the professional tutors from Tutor.com can help. Every tutor is a highly qualified expert who has completed a thorough background check. Tutors are certified teachers, graduate school students, university students and professionals in their fields.
A student can go to the local library’s website and click on Homework Louisiana. The student chooses the subject they need help in and types in the question. Within a few minutes, the student is connected to a tutor anonymously in a secure online classroom where they use text-chat, an interactive whiteboard and secure web sharing to communicate with their tutor. Once the session is completed, the student may print or email their session for later review.
SkillsCenter Resources Online
The service also includes access to online tutorials to build skills in math, science, English and social studies. These resources are available 24/7 from a student’s home computer by accessing www.homeworkla.org.
Both the online tutoring service and the SkillsCenter are available to students from home and inside libraries. The State Library offers the public library version of the Tutor.com service, which does not include features such as in-school access or individual reporting.
