Shooting range under discussion for Many

A shooting range is in the works for Many, according to Mayor Ken Freeman, who brought the range up for discussion during the regular council meeting on July 20.

Freeman was previously approached by a group of hunters regarding the possibility of a range, and got the ball rolling.

The Sabine Council on Aging has already expressed interest and may invest, while Linda Curtis-Sparks of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission performed a study and is also interested in the range.

Local hunters and sportsmen such as Bill Boone, Chuck Soileau and Doug Abington have formed a “skeet commission” and are already meeting to move the range forward.

The range could mean good things for the parish, as it will provide recreation in addition to the possibility of school shooting clubs.

A grant for the range could possibly be garnered through the Breaux bill.
Council members voted unanimously to pursue the range.
