Samuel Joseph Callia

A memorial service honoring the life of Samuel Joseph Callia will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 23 at the Frost Chapel of First Baptist Church of Shreveport with the Revs. Ray Boswell and John Henson officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Rose Neath Marshall Street Chapel from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. on July 22.

Private interment was held at Fern Park in Natchitoches.

He was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Powhatan and died on July 19, 2010, at his residence after a brief illness.

He graduated from Northwestern State University in 1957 and was a graduate of Texas Weslyn College in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mr. Callia served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shreveport where he was a teacher in the men’s Sunday school department. He was a retired Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist after 48 years of service.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of over 40 years, Linda Wright Callia; daughters, Angela Callia Grant and husband, James, and Julie Callia Procell; sister, Josephine “Peggy” Callia Davis; nephews, Lee and B.J. Davis; children, Michael Ryan Callia and wife, Pam; Brian Keith Callia and wife, Debbie; Beneen Marie Morgan and husband, Shawn; and Jolly Joe Harper and wife, Tami; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorial gifts be made to the Guatemala Mission of the First Baptist Church, 843 Ockley Dr., Shreveport, LA 71106.
