Random Ramblings - June 30

by Daniel Jones

Work is progressing on our upcoming historical edition, which is set for publication on July 14.

This will be just about our last call for content to be included in the special edition of the paper, which hasn’t been attempted in quite some time. I sincerely hope that the publication is something special, and that a great number of our loyal readers choose to keep it as a keepsake of Sabine Parish and its wonderful, rich history.

Just remember that history is all around us, and has a wide range of interpretations. So, if you’re cleaning out an attic or old shoe box and happen upon a picture, news clipping, or item of interest about our parish, please run by and let us have a look. Submissions can include almost anything from sports wins, a church or school history, or an old family photo.

One good example is a picture provided by Mark Webb, the grandson of Doc Lucius, who ran the local Nehi bottling plant until his death in 1972.

Mr. Webb was recently going through one of those old boxes of photographs and found a photo of a Woodsmen of the World event that happened in Many around the turn of the 20th Century.

The detail in the old photo is astounding, and will be included in the historical edition.

Unfortunately, not much is known of the photo, as Doc was good at a lot of things, but labeling photos wasn’t one of them, according to his grandson.
However, if you notice an old relative or know anything about the event, please get in contact with me here at the office.
