Frank Martin Lopez, Sr.

Frank Martin Lopez, Sr., 71, succumbed to cancer and died on June 18, 2010, at his daughter’s residence.

Services began at 10 a.m. on June 22 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and was officiated by Fr. Philip F. Michiels of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Interment followed at Centuries Memorial Park.

He was a beloved father and grandfather, devout Catholic, avid sports fan and retired Lieutenant with the Shreveport Police Department.

Mr. Lopez was a native of Zwolle and resident of Shreveport for 44 years. He graduated from Zwolle High School and served as M.P. in the Army, being stationed in Germany between 1957-1960 and honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.

He retired from the Shreveport Police Department after a career that he began in 1966. He was a homicide detective and an investigator for the district attorney’s office. During his law enforcement career he received many commendations including Shreveport Jaycees Outstanding Young Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award in 1971. In 1978, he received a commendation from Interpol for solving an international homicide case. He graduated from the LSU Law Enforcement Institute in Baton Rouge in 1971. His keen investigation skills were noted in various detective magazines, as well as being recognized by members of Congress and other political figures. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the Choctaw Apache Tribe of Ebarb.

Mr. Lopez was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Juanita Sepulvado.

He was a devoted father and grandfather who is survived by his children, Shelly Hebert and husband, Chad; sons, Frank Lopez, Jr.; Lance C. Lopez, Robert Lopez and Jeffrey Lopez; grandchildren, R.J. Giglio, Triston and Thomas Hebert, Corey and Kaitlynn Lopez, Remmy Trotto, Christopher and Dylan Lopez, Monique Yannick, Louisa Lopez and Amy and Kim Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael and Winston Ebarb, Daryl Sepulvado, Roger Lopez, Dr. John George, and Graham George.

The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the Fraternal Order of Police.
