On Monday, May 24, over 100 students returned to Florien High School. Not for school as usual, but for summer fun with the PALS program.

With so many choices for daily components it was a hard decision for some to choose only three. Some of the different components offered at FHS include: arts and crafts, beginner and junior chef, sewing, technology, sports, golf, music, guitar, percussion, science investigation, Spanish, and Girl Scouts.

One component in which all students participate is Academics. Each student spends one hour working on math and language arts skills. Students are able to reinforce skills already learned while being introduced to new skills as well.

Students are also involved in activities off campus two days each week, which are probably the students’ top picks. One includes a day at Hodges Gardens for grades one - eight. Then one day the campus divides into two groups. First, grades one – third alternate weeks between, water fun on the play ground or serving the community by visiting local nursing homes and singing for the residents. Second, our grades four – eight travel to Toledo Bend’s Twin Island for a day at the beach.

The PALS program offers students many opportunities for new and exciting experiences. Students learn skills and are exposed to many things that they will benefit from throughout their lives.

The current lake level for Toledo Bend reservoir is 164.24 The top of the power pool is 172 ft.msl and bottom of the power pool is 168 ft. msl.
