Ruth Veuleman Latham

Ruth Veuleman Latham, 93, died on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Sabine Retirement and Rehabilitation in Many. She was born Feb. 25, 1917 in Many and lived in Converse her entire life prior to her illness.

Services were held on May 14 at the Rose-Neath Chapel in Mansfield with the Rev. Jimmy Price, pastor of Noble Baptist Church, officiating. Marty Rogers provided music. Burial followed at Converse Cemetery.

She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Converse, and attended faithfully until the onset of her illness. Mrs. Latham had many friends and her greatest joy was to help anyone in their time of need.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Floyd Latham of Converse; parents, Frank and Kate Veuleman of Robeline; two brothers, M.E. Veuleman and Lester “Doc” Veuleman, both of Many; and sister, Geraldine Savell of Many.

Left to cherish beautiful memories are her two daughters, Gayle Smith and husband, Phillip, of Greenwood and Pauline Saxton and husband, Mike, of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandsons, Scott Saxton and Keith and Kevin LeGier; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jared LeGier of Oxnard, Ca.; sister, Nadine Savell of Robeline; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honoring her as pallbearers were Buddy Veuleman, Scott Saxton, Kevin LeGier, Keith LeGier, Mitch Latham and the Rev. Bob Latham.

We cannot express our gratitude adequately, in conveying a special thank you to the staff and employees of Sabine Retirement and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Many. There are too many to mention by name, but you gave our mother the kindness and compassion that she so deserved. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Her message to her daughters, grandchildren, family and friends was, “On my journey, I walked many miles, and have seen wondrous things. By now, no longer weary, I am resting in His arms and being comforted by the gentleness of His touch. I have traveled the road home.”
