Antique Roses

The New Dawn Climbing Rose has many clusters of pastel pink flowers beginning in spring and repeating all summer.

The year 2010 promises to be a good year for gardeners who love roses. The wonderful world of antique roses can be found at Pace Creek Gardens in Hemphill, Tx. where the roses are placed into garden use groups.

These groups are Pioneer Roses, Earthkind Roses, Once Blooming Climbers, Repeat Blooming Climbers; and Large and Small Shrubs.

The Texas Pioneer Roses are the result of breeding the showiest and toughest antique roses and selecting offspring with the most outstanding characteristics. Although beautiful and practical, the best virtues of these roses are their toughens and resiliency, much like the Texas pioneers that they honor.

There are 18 varieties of Earthkind Roses to choose from at Pace Creek Gardens. These roses possess an extreme high level of landscape performance. A few of the Earthkind Roses are Belinda’s Rose, Carefree Beauty, Marie Daley and the Caldwell Pink which stands second to none in its summer bloom and dramatic fall color.

Once Blooming Climbers, also known as Spring Blooming Climbers are great roses for naturalizing. Even though they are climbers, with some pruning and training most can be grown as large, mounding shrubs. Others are naturally bushy, lending grace to any garden. Their beauty, grace and health make them very desirable even without flower throughout the year.

Repeat Blooming Climbers have the ability to bloom not only in the spring with show-stopping appeal but also in the fall which makes them indispensable to any gardener. These roses are in high demand by gardeners looking to expand their use of the vertical element and bring fragrance, beauty and a touch of nostalgia to their landscape.

The Pace Creek Gardens has the most popular selection of large shrubs, ranging form four to eight feet in height and can be used as showy specimens in the perennial border, planted in rows to create colorful hedges or used as foundation plantings around a house or fence. They offer almost every class of rose; from the chunky repeat blooming Chinas and Teas to the more upright and fragrant Hybird Teas, Hybrid Perpetuals and Bourbons.

The small shrubs available are bushes that range in height from one to four feet. The majority of them are from the Polyantha and Floribunda classes but Chinas, Hybrid Teas and Noisettes are among the classes. All of these roses have a low, compact growth habit and floriferous nature, which make them excellent for massing in flower beds and borders or used as specimens in pots.

Rose lovers do not have to venture far to make their garden vision a reality, at Pace Creek Gardens the garden changes with the seasons. A beautiful assortment of antique roses is available, with 120 different varieties and over 1,000 in stock. They also carry a quality selection of herbs lovingly grown for any garden.
