Honduras Mission trip slated

Honduras Mission trip slated

The Sabine Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International mission team, led by Chris and Denyse Williams of Many and Rod Pollard of DeRidder, journeyed to the village of San Antonio de Flores in the state of El Paraiso, Honduras, in Central America, from May 23 - 30, 2009.

The team saw 2,263 medical patients and 320 dental patients, dispensed 11,293 prescriptions, and distributed 252 pairs of eyeglasses, 500 Bibles, 500 New Testaments, 2,500 tracts, 3,500 pairs of shoes, 1,000 handmade dolls, and 500 handmade dresses, along with other items.

Evangelism was the main focus. The evangelism team, led by George Treutlein, pastor of Fort Jesup Baptist Church in Many, and ably assisted by other area ministers and Honduran workers, presented the gospel to each person who registered for medical services and also led worship services each evening under a large tent in the village.
The veterinary team, led by Bob Allardyce and Ben Peterson, treated 427 animals and witnessed to each person they came in contact with.

One team ministered to the children with fun activities in Children’s Church, led by Emily Walker and April Gill. They were assisted by Lauren Moore, Julie Bell and Judy Davis. There was such a huge response from the children that the team had to schedule one session in the morning for the girls and another in the afternoon for the boys.
There were 152 professions of faith and 24 rededications. There were already two churches in the community and Fredy Nayra, pastor of the local Baptist church, participated in the work. Missionaries living in Honduras, John and Tina Woods, helped to coordinate activities for the mission team all week.

The hospitality and comfortable accommodations at the mission home in the Zamorano Valley near Tegucigalpa, visited on arrival and on returning from the mission village, were outstanding and appreciated by all. Other highlights of the trip were an afternoon spent playing with the children at the Good Shepherd Children’s Home, an excursion to the Zamorano Market for fresh ice cream, and shopping day in Tegucigalpa which included a meal at Wendy’s fast food restaurant.

Plans are in the making for a trip to the village of San Miguelito in Intibuca, Honduras, from May 23 - 29, 2010. The mission team leaders and members greatly appreciate the outpouring of assistance from so many individuals and churches who diligently work on making the handmade dolls and clothes, who donate used glasses and other item, those who help pack the supplies, and help with all the other preparations throughout the year. The ministry of the mission team would be impossible if not for the year long efforts of so many volunteer workers in our communities.

Donations of used eyeglasses, including children’s glasses, used Christmas cards, and items for health kits can be dropped off at Dr. Bob Allardyce’s office at Sabine Veterinary Hospital in Many.

Please commit to pray for the success of the upcoming mission trip and seriously consider joining the team on the mission trip in 2011.
