Mavis Margerine Remedies

Margie (Semons) Remedies was born October 23, 1936 in Many, to James Semons and Minnie (Maloney) Semons and entered into rest on July 3, 2020 at her residence in Many. Graveside services for her were held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery with Rev. Francis Kamau officiating.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. James and Mrs. Minnie Semons; her husband, Ben L. Remedies; and her brother-in-law, James Reigle. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Anna Salley and husband, Robert of Bossier City; sister, Arlis Reigle of Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, she leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Leslie Salley, Erin Salley, and Brandon Salley all of Bossier City; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

Honoring her as pallbearers were John Adair, Scott Wyatt, Jeff Evans, Joe Dewil, and Wade Seegers.

Truman M. Durr

Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Truman Durr, 84, were held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Wallace Baptist Church in Pelican with Bro. Donny Durr officiating. Assisting the service was Bro. Jeff Jinks. Interment followed at Beulah Cemetery in Marthaville.

Truman was born on September 6, 1935 in Rambin, Louisiana to J.Y. “Jake” Durr and Lillian Blue Durr. He entered into eternal rest on July 5, 2020 in Shreveport.

Truman was the best all-around student of Ajax High School. He was involved with numerous organizations including Shriner’s Hospital, Lion’s Club, Freemasonry, President of The Battle of Pleasant Hill for over 25 years, Mayor of Pleasant Hill for 8 years, served on the Jury Commission in Sabine Parish for over 25 years, worked for BMA Insurance for more than 20 years, and later retired from Rose-Neath Funeral Home as a Funeral Director’s Assistant.

Raydon Maxie Thaxton

Funeral services for Raydon Thaxton, 100, of Florien, were held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Warren and Rev. Rickey Robertson officiating and Stacy Stewart providing the music. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Raydon Maxie Thaxton was born on Friday, October 31, 1919 in Many. He passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at his residence in Florien. Raydon worked for the pipeline company for 17 years. After moving back from Beaumont, Texas he became a farmer and rancher until he was 82 years old. The remainder of his years he worked for Brad Browning Cattle Company as Brad’s Foreman. He also served in the Navy for 6 years before and after WWII as a Petty Officer First Class.

Funeral services for her were held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Siloam Baptist Church with Brother Wilton Anthony and Brother Ricky Robinson officiating; interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Graveside services for Murl Westfall, 86, of Florien, were held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Florien Cemetery with Bro. Dennis Bignar officiating.

Murl Westfall was born on Tuesday, April 3, 1934 in Florien. He passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at his residence in Florien. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. V. Westfall and Tishia (Miller) Westfall and his twin brother, Earl Westfall.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Westfall of Florien; daughter, Mona Leach and husband Emet of Florien; son, Terry Westfall and wife Kay of Florien; sisters, Imogene Montgomery of Houston, Texas; and Mavis Watson of Leesville; grandchildren, Tera Goyette and husband Josh of Slidell; Aaron Leach and wife Samantha of Negreet; Justin Westfall and wife Alesha of Florien; great grandchildren, Jackson Box; Ava Goyette; Landyn Leach; Jaidyn Leach; Kaylee; Carter and Connor Westfall; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Jardis Bridges was born July 15, 1933 in Peason Ridge, Louisiana to Andrew Lee Bridges, Sr. and Ethel (Cook) Bridges and entered into rest on July 3, 2020 in Shreveport. Funeral services for him were held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home with Brother Ron Sandifer and Brother Lee Dickson officiating; interment followed at Florien Cemetery.

JC was a member of the United States Air Force where he bravely and proudly served in the Korean War. He was also a member and deacon of Aimwell Baptist Church of Zwolle. He was also a Gideon member. In his past time, he loved hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Donald Buford Kelly was born on Monday, October 11, 1926 in Barham, Louisiana. He passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his residence in Florien,. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin A. Kelly and Alice (Skinner) Kelly.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Gayle Kelly of Florien; daughters, Ladonna Gayle Christopher of Kirbyville, Texas; Belinda Annette Morgan of Cleveland, Texas; Robin Rene Tomplait of Kirbyville, Texas; Susie Kelly of Plano, Texas; Sonya Lynn Burton of Kirbyville, Texas; son, Christian Gage Kelly of Lake Charles; brother, Roy A. Kelly of Waco, Texas; eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Frankie Hayes Johnson was born on Tuesday, August 22, 1944 in Zwolle. He passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Paul Johnson and Murriel Onida (Williams) Johnson; wife, Shirley Johnson; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Simon.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Johnson of Sulphur; daughters, Kyleen Simon and husband Joseph of Sulphur; Jenny Ardoin of DeQuincy; sons, Harold Lynn Youngblood and wife Cindy of Mansfield; Billy Youngblood and wife June of Florida; Kenny Youngblood of Arkansas; and Patrick Wilson of Sulphur; sister, Evelyn Durr of Noble; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Benjamin William Speights was born on Saturday, September 26, 1942 in Clare, Louisiana. He passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Many Health Care North in Many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Joshua Speights and Della (Gandy) Speights; brother, Dr. Earl Speights; sister, Ernestine Dees; nephew, Bob Speights; great nephew, Zachary Fordham. Ben retired from Texaco Oil Company. He enjoyed his hunting trips to Colorado with friends. He was also a devoted member of Trinity Church.

He is survived by his nieces, Nancy Wright of Many; Judy Boyd of Natchitoches; Laura Eidt of Natchez, Mississippi; Susan Fordham of Downsville, Louisiana; and Edith Nicholson of Forest, Louisiana; nephew, John Dees of Ferriday, Louisiana; along with a host of friends and his coffee drinking buddies.

Esther Mae Campbell was born on Tuesday, February 22, 1944 in Marthaville. She passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 in Natchitoches. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. Shoemake and Winnie Mae (Kelly) Shoemake; sons, Troy Wayne Campbell Jr., John Campbell and Kelly Campbell; sister, Loretta Beal; brothers, Bo Kelly and Hoyt Shoemake; and her daughter-in-law, Janet Campbell.
